Description Felix Miata 2017-12-21 18:06:48 UTC
To reproduce:
1-scroll to bottom of expert partitioner "Settings"
2-open "Default Mount by"
3-select "Volume Label"
4-open "Default File System"
5-select EXT3 or EXT4
6-select "Mount by" and "Used by" for "Visible Information on Storage Devices"
7-select any existing partition with supported & labeled filesystem, whether BIOS or GPT (e.g. EXT4)
8-select "Edit"
9-keep "Do not format partition"
10-select "Mount partition"
11-select " Mount Point"
12-select "Fstab Options"

Actual behavior:
1-UUID is preselected in "Mount in /etc/fstab by"

Expected behavior:
1-Volume Label is preselected in "Mount in /etc/fstab by"

It's been like this too long to remember, probably years before 13.1, 11.4 even; present in 42.3, 15.0 Alpha and TW.

Hi Felix,

Those settings are applied when you are creating a new partition, but not when you are editing an existing one. I am closing this bug report as invalid.

Please, if you want YaST to change its behaviour, open a feature request at https://features.opensuse.org/. Thanks!

Theres no logical reason apparent in the context to distinguish between newly created partitions and existing. The presence of selectable defaults implies their use regardless. FATE stopped accepting new requests before I filed this, and continues to reject attempts, so here is the most logical place available to request a fix:

Sorry, but I do not agree. You are changing "default" values. So, if a value is already specified for a partition (like when editing partitions), it should not change automatically.

Anyway, the new expert partitioner version is under development and maybe you would like to start the discussion in the yast-devel mailing list.

Thanks!

By having selecting YaST2 rather than Installation when filing this it may not have been clear that my grievance was in the context of new, where nothing (except for swap) is mounted anywhere until a partition is selected for mounting. I use the YaST2 partitioner only during new system installation, and exclusively for the purpose of selecting mount points, and mounting options, since I always partition and format in advance of system installation.

This is fixed in recent versions of the installer. The "Default Mount By" setting will be applied to all subsequent operations done by both the Partitioner and the "Guided Setup".

Note the "subsequent" word (which fits the steps in the description).

If that's not the case in Leap 15.1, feel free to reopen.
