Description Joe Morris 2018-10-13 05:16:10 UTC
After updating to kernel-default-4.12.14-lp150.12.19.2.x86_64.rpm in opensuse Leap 15.0 in a virtualbox, it no longer boots. Problem is a missing matching virtualbox kmp package matching the kernel update.

A workaround is it is possible to manually choose the previous kernel which has the virtualbox kmp version (after I figured out the problem).

Larry, is the kmp not supposed to working with the next kernels up? We can of course issue a rebuild but I thought this should be covered by the soft upgrade mechanism for kmps.
Comment 2 Wolfgang Bauer 2018-10-13 07:35:02 UTC
It's an ABI incompatibility in the kernel update, see bug#1111076.

As we now know, the modules were there, but vboxvideo was crashing because of a kernel change that was buggy.
