The board has 2GB ram and the GUI does not fit.

The installer should automagically switch to text mode on these small boards.

Memory size is easily visible to yast.

How did you find out that the Installer does not fit into 2 GB RAM?
On x86_64 it fits into 1 GB RAM. Do you have an ps/top/whatever to show
that it's really the Installer that does not fit?
