This bug is less clear to me than bug#1155817, so it is difficult to try to talk my way out of it :-). Nonetheless, some of the points I made in bug#1155817 apply here: libvirt only recently (v5.5.0) gained support for IA32_ARCH_CAPABILITIES MSR features, and it entails a *lot* [0] of patches and uses 'unavailable-features' QOM property of qemu, which recently landed in qemu 4.1. How far back do we need a libvirt fix for this bug? With all the code change caused by >30 backports I'll need to cook up a test plan to ensure there are no regressions and the bug is actually fixed. [0] https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2019-June/msg00733.html https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2019-June/msg00927.html so the passthrough entails two things: - The flag that TSX can be disabled at all during boot, if microcode is present. This is also relevant for guests. (SUSE default is leaving it on by default.) If the guest does not see, it is supposed to use VERW by default. This feature is only in very recent CPUs anyway, so again a hardware enablement issue. - VERW usage ... The guest code will attempt VERW either way, even if there is no MSR report. So we can skip libvirt fixes for this too I think, we will do VERW mitigation always. is public. I suppose this bug can be closed? Note that since the embargo has lifted there have been no upstream libvirt patches for this issue or the IFU one. SUSE is currently not intending to add this pass through for libvirt. BTW, libvirt patches for taa_no and tsx_ctrl were posted to the libvirt dev list last week https://www.redhat.com/archives/libvir-list/2019-December/msg00945.html Marcus, should we add the patches to products under general maintenance and skip LTSS? Or skip them altogether as originally planned? after review of patches, the backport is still too complex and errorprone for maintained codestreams SUSE-SU-2020:0093-1: An update that solves 80 vulnerabilities and has 310 fixes is now available.
