Description Josef Prazak 2020-05-26 07:13:59 UTC
After fresh install Gnome X11 selection. During boot screen started to be corrupted and absolutly unreadable, no Xserver start. With disabled spalash screen, first part - kernel loading and initrd is OK, but after some module loading or service star screen started to be corrupted, unreadable.
It can by fixed with "nomodeset" kernel parameter
HW: Z8G4, Graphic card Nvidia RTX5000

Could be problem with the kernel driver for your graphics card.

Being more specific (what does "some module loading" mean) would be appreciated to help to find the root cause.

What was the last readable output on the screen?

next trick to start Xserver is suspend and unsuspend (power button press)

Looks like nouveau is loaded, please help, thanks!
Comment 6 Stefan Dirsch 2020-05-28 11:51:01 UTC
Unfortunately nouveau gfx driver is a reverse-engineered driver we cannot support at all. So same situation as on previous SLED versions. Install via "nomodeset" and install afterwards the RPM packages for the proprietary driver by NVIDIA. Actually on SLED the repository is added by default if you accept the license for it during installation and the right packages will be autoselected and installed.

Sorry, cannot be fixed.
