Description Lubos Kocman 2022-03-11 10:36:14 UTC
Hello team,

just to avoid few more calls or mails on the beta-mailing list
could we mention in the SP4 migration guide (specifically in the Leap to SLE migration section) that SUSEConnect is now provided by suseconnect-ng package which obsoletes old SUSEConnect package?

We could avoid misunderstandings such as
https://lists.suse.com/pipermail/sle-beta/2022-March/001042.html

Thank you

Hi Lubos,

I don't understand the problem here. :-(

1. We don't mention SUSEConnect, so we should not have to mention suseconnect-ng either.
2. Instead, SUSEConnect/suseconnect-ng should be installed as dependency of yast-registration. In fact, you wrote this in the wiki at https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:How_to_migrate_to_SLE#Install_tools_for_registration
3. I don't understand why suseconnect-ng is not installed, because I can't understand you Czech output in bug 1197006
4. If suseconnect-ng is not installed correctly, then this is a packaging problem; it needs to properly provide/obsolete the old SUSEConnect package. This is important not only for pulling in suseconnect-ng as dependency but also for providing a clean upgrade path from Leap 15.3 to 15.4.

The information about SUSEConnect is already mentioned in https://susedoc.github.io/release-notes/sles-15_SP4/html/release-notes/#jsc-SLE-17603

Christoph does not recommend to add additional information to migration guide and overflow it with content.

We'll mention the suseconnect-ng in openSUSE Release notes as well as wiki and consider it sufficient communication.

Thank you!
