Created attachment 865646 [details] journalctl -b -1, the log of a broken boot, probably in the end I just power cycled. I updated my home server to find that it no longer boots. it just stops with a blank screen where I normally would expect it to switch video mode to 1024x768. Adding "nomodeset" fixes the boot. The machine is a FUJITSU ESPRIMO P757, Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-6100 CPU @ 3.70GHz Actually checking the log with "journalctl -b -1" shows that it actually is booting but not working correctly (it also has no network when booted without nomodeset). Attaching this log. It shows a few backtraces related to i915.
