Description James Ward 2006-05-28 00:37:07 UTC
Right out of the box I start Evolution 2.6.0 on SUSE 10.1 and the email setup wizard pops up. I choose Microsoft Exchange and fill in all the info only to have a pop up box tell me:

"Could not configure Exchange account because an unknown error occurred. Check the URL, username, and password, and try again."

Evolution can never open unless I configure a fake POP acct.

I have double checked my acct info.

I am able to connect in Evolution 2.4.0 on SUSE 10.0 with the same OWA and credentials. So I go from being able to use Evolution with my work Exchange server to nothing at all.

thanks for your consideration,

How does your username and OWA URLs look like?

Is the username is of the form
domain\username or username@domainname or just the username?

Also, Can you set E2K_DEBUG=4 and run Evolution on that console and
get the traces when it fails?
See http://gnome.org/projects/evolution/bugs.shtml for more details.
Comment 2 James Ward 2006-06-01 17:22:19 UTC
Username looks like: award
my OWA URL looks like: https://webmail.eclipsnet.com

I have never had to use DOMAIN\USER format. I did try it tho in Evo 2.6. No success. I have used Evo 2.4 successfully using the above connection info. Something changed in Evo 2.6.

FYI...this problem is present in Fedora Core 5 Evolution 2.6 also.
Comment 3 Sushma Rai 2006-06-05 05:23:03 UTC
Can you please attach the E2K_DEBUG traces during account creation,
for both 2.4 (where it is working) and 2.6 (where it fails)?
Comment 4 James Ward 2006-06-10 05:47:15 UTC
sorry...i dont know how to do the E2K_DEBUG traces. i am sure i can do it with some instruction....just never done it yet.
Comment 5 David Dulong 2006-06-19 20:55:56 UTC
FWIW - I'm having a very similar problem with SLED 10 RC 2.5.

I have been able to get it to connect and read the mail for a while. After using it for a while, I got an error (I cannot remember what I did to get the error). Now when I go back in, I cannot access my mailbox.

I now get this after entering the CORRECT password: "Error while Scanning folders in "Exchange server X6009A.umb.corp.umb.com".

Could not authenticate to server. (Password incorrect?)"

The only way I have been able resolve this is to move my home directory to a backup and then log back in and re-do my setup. A bit extreme I know but I have not been able to figure out how to get rid of the exchange config completely from Gnome.
Comment 6 David Dulong 2006-06-19 20:57:28 UTC
Forgot to mention that I'm running 32bit, not 64bit.
Comment 7 David Dulong 2006-06-20 13:58:08 UTC
Update - I rolled BACK to the version of EVO that shipped with SLED10-B11 (again 32bit version) and it works just fine....

This is what IS working:

evolution-data-server-1.6.0-35
beagle-evolution-0.2.3-40.15
evolution-sharp-0.10.2-25
evolution-exchange-2.6.0-18
evolution-2.6.0-35

Comment 8 James Ward 2006-06-20 16:35:19 UTC
Thanks David. Good info to know. I think its my responsibility to get the latest version from

http://www.gnome.org/projects/evolution/download.shtml

and see if my problem persists.

i am going to try:

Evolution 2.6.2
Evolution Data Server 1.6.2
GtkHtml 3.10.2
libsoup 2.2.93
Evolution Exchange 2.6.2

do i need the Data Server portion just to run Evolution? are there dependencies on Evolution DAta Center in order to get Evolution compiled and install? or is it just for running email on my linux. because i dont wanna run a email server. just use evolution.

David, maybe we can talk offline and u can run me thru real quick about how to install new and roll back versions of Evolution.
Comment 9 David Dulong 2006-06-22 13:41:23 UTC
I installed the following versions at the request of Harish Krishnaswamy:

evolution-exchange-2.6.0-20060619
evolution-2.6.0-20060619
evolution-data-server-1.6.0-20060619

And this is still not working.

Right now the only version that seems to work is what I posted previously.

Comment 10 Harish Krishnaswamy 2006-06-28 16:05:58 UTC
Sushma : Ross Hanson from Maricopa has also reported the above issue. Do we have any workarounds/suggestions for customers while this is being fixed ?
Comment 11 Sushma Rai 2006-06-29 05:13:16 UTC
James Ward ,
http://gnome.org/projects/evolution/bugs.shtml explains how
to get E2K_DEBUG traces.
Please get E2K_DEBUG=4 traces from evolution-exchange-storage,
for both 2.4 (where it is working) and 2.6.x (where it is not working).
Also use 2.6.2, which is the latest version available.

And about the comment #8, evolution data server is needed
for both while compiling evolution and also using evolution, and it is
not a e-mail server. You can see http://www.go-evolution.org/EDS_Architecture
for more details.

David Dulong , please use latest 2.6.2

Harish, Ross Hanson's problem may be same as James Ward's problem
or something else. Without debug traces we can not suggest anything.

fejj: Can this issue be related to bug https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=179566 bcoz David Dulong started looking in RC 2.5?
Comment 13 Sushma Rai 2006-07-18 08:13:38 UTC
David,

From the logs it looks like it is failing because of some proxy
settings. As of now we support connection via proxy that doesn't require
authentication. See the bug
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=188523
for more details.

First check if you have enabled proxy support in the desktop.
You can find this using the tool "gconf-editor".

Run gconf-editor and select the folder
"system->http-proxy" and see if you have selected
1. "use_http_proxy" and
2. "use_authentication" options.

If those options are selected, disable them,
kill e-d-s and other evolution related processes
using the command
"pkill evolution"

Try configuring and accessing an exchange account and
let me know the if it works.

As a next step,

please download the e-d-s rpm without proxy support from
http://gnomebangalore.org/~sragavan/evolution-data-server-1.6.0-43.18.i586.rpm.bz2

unzip it using the command
"bunzip2 evolution-data-server-1.6.0-43.18.i586.rpm.bz2"

Delete the existing e-d-s rpm using the command

"rpm -e --nodeps evolution-data-server-1.6.0-43.20"

(you can find the current installed version using the command
"rpm -qa | grep evolution-data-server")

and install the attached rpm using the command
"rpm -ivh evolution-data-server-1.6.0-43.18.i586.rpm"

stop all the evolution processes using the command
"pkill evolution" and try configuring the account.

Please get me the E2K_DEBUG traces if you are still seeing
some problem.

James ward, can you take the latest 2.6.3 and test this.

David Dulong, any updates ?

I havent been able to test 2.6.3 on Suse10.1 because 2.6.3 is not yet available from Yast Online Update. I do not know how to compile and install the latest version from gnome.org website.

I am also using Fedora Core 5. I updated Evolution to 2.6.3 from the online software updater within Fedora and Evolution works great! My problem is fixed. you can close this bug that I opened. I am sure it wont be long until Suse 10.1 gets updated within= Evo 2.6.3. I know i havent experienced the fix on Suse 10.1 but i am happy with it being fixed in Fedora Core 5. You can close the bug.

Thanks for the update, James. Would you mind trying the packages from http://gnomebangalore.org/~vvaradha/evo-snapshots/sled-10/aug-28-2006/ - as they contain the fixes that went in for 2.6.3?

This will help us close this bug w.r.t SuSE 10.1. TIA.

As per comment#15, the patch that fixes the bug has already been committed to SLED10/10.1 (in the maintenance updates).
