Description Christian Boltz 2006-07-19 22:18:23 UTC
Another usability issue in zen-updater:

Some patches have a yellow icon on the right, others don't have it.
It's unclear for the user what this icon means and why it appears only on some patches.
(It _seems_ to mark security updates, but I'm not sure about this.)

Also, it's hard to see the difference between patches and packages - this should be indicated with an icon (for non-security patches) also.

Suggestion:
- "warning" icon for security relevant patches
- "normal" icon for other patches
- no icon for packages

Since I'm not a designer, choose the icons yourself ;-)

In case you don't have enough updates in the queue in zen-updater, you can find a screenshot in attachment 94043 [details] of bug 193593.

BTW: the different icons in the list should have tool tips.

perhaps it is possible to add a tooltip to the icon that reads "security update". Passing it to Chris for his review/fixing.

GTK doesn't have a nice way to add tool tips to cells in a TreeView. There is a way to do it, but it's kinda hacky. Since the icons are confusing and require tool tips to be useful I decided to replace them with text. Optional and security updates with have "(Optional)" or "(Security)" text next to their names. The icons are no longer used. This is fixed for 10.2 in svn revision 35738.
