When I start the machine AppArmor also gets started (it can be seen from the logs) but YAST shows it is not started. When I switch it on and off, it is really switched on and off, but the YAST indicator shows status on or off randomly.
Another variation: I display AppArmor status in YAST then press Cancel. When I do it several times the satus is shown by YAST changes randomly.
I use runlevel 3.

This issue has been corrected in the version of AppArmor released in openSUSE 10.2
