What will the new procedure and/or program be? Will it be available to testing? Where can it be downloaded from?

wait a second ...
creating selections or pattern files is out of scope for create_package_descr,
it never did this and probably never will. The script is mainly intended
to create the "packages*" files and is not used for anything else here.

Patterns are built from their own packages and just unpacked on the CDs.

Yes, I've hacked some extensions into a private copy of create_package_descr
to also call other scripts and tools like "createrepo", but that version was
never finished and never debugged or used. I'll resume work on that one as
soon as I can find the time ...

the src-rpms of the package(s) creating the patterns should be part
of the factory inst-source-tree by now.
