after updating to the current libzypp test update i see

size: 983 MB

to download all 10.1-x86_64 (minus the zypp update).

Then it starts installing with deltas and patch rpms which likely has much
less download size.

note: ftp.uni-kl.de is actually grape.suse.de which uses you.suse.de

so this logs were done using the YOU.suse.de repo.

I'm not sure if it's possible to know whether a delta/patch will be used in advance (before starting update).

Michael, any idea?
Comment 4 Michael Andres 2006-09-20 16:05:57 UTC
Whether a delta/patch is used is determined when the package is actually provided. Of course one could do a more optimistic guess, but a package/source can't do this based on it's own metadata. At least target/rpm access is required.

It might be easier to solve this post 10.2 (new pool layout).

Michael, has something changed regarding to patch/delta RPMs in 10.3 with the new libzypp?
Comment 6 Michael Andres 2007-07-24 14:59:28 UTC
No, we still show the worst case.
Comment 7 Lukas Ocilka 2007-09-13 08:16:00 UTC
10.1 ---> 11.0 :)
Closing as LATER (after 10.3)
Comment 8 Ladislav Slezák 2007-11-20 10:23:58 UTC
reopening after 10.3
Comment 9 Ladislav Slezák 2007-11-20 10:25:27 UTC
We need a support in libzypp first, reassigning...

We stay with the pessimistic guess and count the whole package.
