Description Markus Heller 2006-09-05 22:39:02 UTC
execute dhclient manually (eth0), obtain settings for the name server through dhcp.

In YAST go to "Konfiguration der Netzwerkadresse". You get the message:

"Die Resolver-Konfigurationsdatei (/etc/resolv.conf) wurde vorübergehend von /sbin/dhclient verändert. Sie haben zwei Optionen:

1.) Modifizieren Sie die aktuell (geänderte) Version der Datei
2.) Drücken Sie nun "Übernehmen" und fahren Sie ... fort.

The problem here ist this: A user who is unsure about all these technical details might not want to modify anything at all. For this reasons, it would be useful to offer a "Abort / Abbrechen" clickfield, so that the user can simply abort without any changes. The way it is now, the user seems to be forced to apply any change whatsoever, even if he didn't want to change anything!

Unsure (novice) users will be very confused.

reassigned to maintainer of yast2-network.

This is not an issue of what buttons to use, it is an issue of providing better explanations about what consequence either course of action has.

IMHO the request to improve this dialog is perfectly valid, but the approach should not be to change the button labels, but to explain better what this is all about.

If it is not already used (I don't recall), we might want to use a RichText widget here and use different styles of highlighting for the concise options (headings) and the explanatory text.

Sigi? Rebecca? Any ideas?

I need a screen shot of the English dialog before I can comment effectively.

Rebecca, do you have any enhancemet about this?
Comment 6 Rebecca Walter 2007-01-31 06:47:16 UTC
I agree that we can improve this. However, we probably should wait a while until projects under development are released. We can improve this for 10.3.
Comment 7 Michal Zugec 2007-11-21 13:36:04 UTC
This was fixed for 10.3
