Opening the Gnome menu brings up the Favourites list. Clicking on "More Applications" closes the menu and gives an hour glass for ~10 seconds, then nothing. Opening the menu again repeats the above process.

I can only access "Favourites" and "Recent" applications.

Entering, for example, "Gimp" in the search box closes the Gnome menu and opens the desktop search dialog, then complains that desktop search is not initialised.
