Description Lars Vogdt 2006-09-20 13:29:36 UTC
After installation of openSUSE-10.2-Alpha4plus with the default patterns for GNOME and adding a local user, no graphical login is possible - neather for root nor for the user.

Editing
/etc/pam.d/gdm
/etc/pam.d/gdm-autologin
/etc/pam.d/xdm

and commenting out the line:
session required pam_devperm.so
in each of this files, login is possible.
Comment 1 Christoph Thiel 2006-09-20 13:53:25 UTC
Thorsten, does this need to be fixed in xorg-x11 (/etc/pam.d/xdm) and gdm (/etc/pam.d/gdm*)?
Comment 2 Andreas Hanke 2006-09-20 13:58:46 UTC
*** Bug 205621 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Comment 3 Stanislav Brabec 2006-09-20 14:38:54 UTC
Yes, see bug 192400.
Comment 4 Thorsten Kukuk 2006-09-20 14:44:54 UTC
Seems we didn't communicate this correct long time ago and I missed it the last time when checking pam config files :-(
pam_devperm is obsolete and I thought Stefan removed it the last time when it made so many trouble with x11.
Comment 5 Christoph Thiel 2006-09-20 14:53:38 UTC
Adding GNOME maintainers to CC: Please fix gdm as well!
Comment 6 Andreas Hanke 2006-09-20 15:33:28 UTC
kdebase3-kdm is also affected:

/etc/pam.d/kcheckpass from package kdebase3-kdm references the no longer existing pam_devperm.so as well.
Comment 7 Christoph Thiel 2006-09-20 15:38:27 UTC
Adding KDE maintainers to CC: Please fix /etc/pam.d/kcheckpass (kdebase3-kdm).
Comment 8 Stefan Dirsch 2006-09-20 19:03:14 UTC
fixed in /etc/pam.d/xdm.
Comment 9 Christoph Thiel 2006-09-20 19:14:08 UTC
Over to the GNOME team.
Comment 10 Stephan Binner 2006-09-21 08:01:25 UTC
Removed from /etc/pam.d/kcheckpass and /etc/pam.d/xdm-np
Comment 11 Holger Sickenberg 2006-09-21 09:01:22 UTC
Isn't that a showstopper for alpha4plus?
Comment 12 Lars Vogdt 2006-09-21 09:13:39 UTC
I think this is at least AJs decision.

But:
- we have a (temporary) workaround for this
- fixed packages are currently submitted to autobuild and can be tested on an already installed system
- *plus-Versions are only available internaly, just our own developers are involved

=> So for me this is neather a blocker nor a show stopper. But it's critical because we want all GNOME and KDE developers to fix this as soon as possible... ;-)
Comment 13 Joe Hargadon 2006-09-26 21:44:06 UTC
I have removed pam_devperm.so from gdm.pamd and gdm-autologin.pamd

I was able to login successfully with this change. I have submitted the change to autobuild.
