you can get the new version of spamassassin from 
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/varkoly/spamassassin/3.1.6/10.0-i386

This doesn't appear to be a bug in spamassassin as upgrading it still results in the same problem.  This problem still exists in SLED 10 using the latest evolution beta build.
