Description Christian Hueller 2006-11-15 10:12:21 UTC
Description:

I updated a 10.1 machine to 10.2 beta2. It was turned on over night and upon return this morning i had 19 popups from the Software Updater stating an error message (for details see attached screenshot).
Also it seemed that previous existing Install Sources from 10.1 did not get removed, however they are set to Inactive. What was strange is that these former update sources did only show up in the rug -sl output and not in the package source view of the Yast Package Installer (see second attached screenshot).

rug -sl says:
--+----------+------+--------------------------------------------------------+-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 | Inactive | ZYPP | SUSE-Linux-10.1-Updates | http://ftp.ale.org/pub/suse/update/10.1/

not sure however if this has something direclty to do with the Error popups from tonight, just what i stumbled across while taking a look.

Howto repeat:

- Update 10.1 to 10.2 beta2
- login as the local user created on 10.1 before the update
- let the machine stand overnight
=> watch Error popups the next morning

For the popup in comment #1, reassigning to zen-updater maintainer.
Comment 6 Martin Vidner 2006-11-16 08:15:07 UTC
The repositories for 10.1 are disabled in yast and since beta 2+ are removed from zenworks (bug 219414). But that is only superficially similar.

This does not seem to be yast related. But Stano might know whether it is a duplicate.
Comment 7 Stanislav Visnovsky 2006-11-16 10:10:55 UTC
The exception is a Zenworks problem, definitely.
Comment 8 Thruth Wang 2007-01-02 10:13:27 UTC
My x86_64 10.2 gets the same problem.

Once I mannually quited zen-updater. Since then, I've met the error popup in Comment#1 every time I login.

While Novell-zmd service is running zen-updater refuses to start.

In shell:
su
/etc/init.d/novell-zmd restart(with the perfect done&done response)
exit
zen-updater
It still throws out the error message.

I've been in this trouble for about a week.PS. I heard on a forum that the problem may gone with no reason, all by itself.........
Comment 9 Rashmi Ranjan Mohanty 2007-10-09 08:50:51 UTC
This is because of the changed dependency on sqlite.

in 10.1 zmd uses sqlite package, but 10.2 the new sqlite is not compatible with zmd. So zmd uses another new package sqlite-zmd

But when the system was updated. sqlite-zmd did not get installed. So ZMD could not run. If you directly install 10.2 it will work or if manually install the sqlite-zmd package after the upgrade, it will work.

Anyway Zenworks is no more part of OpenSuSE. So the case is invalid for SLE10 SP1. Marking this as resolved...
