Comment 3 Ladislav Slezák 2006-11-29 12:00:09 UTC
I'm not sure whether there is any advantage to merge the two parts. I personally use "URL" type when adding a new source - I cut&paste the URL there, it's even more convenient...

I think that to have two parts is more understable, esp. for beginners.

The second request seems to be similar to export/import package list (bug #224120), isn't it?
Comment 4 Sebastian Furdal 2006-11-29 12:50:52 UTC
1) Well it is advantage! If someone is browsing http://software.opensuse.org/download/ and wats to add one of those repositories then he have to mark twiece and be verry careful and preciseble, and add to two fields in yast "source window add". In my case the adding one - whole adress to the one edit field is twice faster and clearer.

Mayby adding in this way coloud be much better:
http://software.opensuse.org/download/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_10.1/

- you just mark whole adres by mouse clickin twince on the adres bar of the webbrowser. (yast should delete htt:// or ftp:// or so on ?)

not:
software.opensuse.org/download/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_10.1/

or
software.opensuse.org
download/KDE:/KDE3/SUSE_Linux_10.1/

"I think that to have two parts is more understable, esp. for beginners." - I disagree - its more confusing - one is much simple and easeir.

2) yes but this is for yast sources not rpm's :) - IMHO it is verry good idea, becouse if I want to install suse on one of may friends computers, I do not have add 5-6 repositories manually one by one :) ... - its much faster way.
Comment 5 Ladislav Slezák 2007-03-27 12:02:17 UTC
ad 1) you can paste a complete URL into a single entry if you select "URL" type.

ad 2) it's a good idea

Is it enough to have zypper import/export repo list functionality?
Comment 7 Lukas Ocilka 2007-09-10 15:26:12 UTC
Closing as LATER ---> to be reconsidered after 10.3

Anyway, Sebastian, could you, please, think about the suggested solution mentioned in comment #6? What do you think of that?
Comment 8 Sebastian Furdal 2007-09-10 16:10:40 UTC
Hello Lukas,

zypper import/export repo functionality is not enough, because newbes loves mouse :) => yast2 sw_single should have this two :)

Why You have added "community repositories" as a diffrent module in 10.3 - more modules, more confuse?

regars

seb
Comment 9 Lukas Ocilka 2007-09-10 16:17:44 UTC
Yes, we wanted to confuse users :))))

Well, actually, we had a plan to merge community repositories to the inst_source module however we didn't make it :( Hopefully after 10.3
Comment 10 Sebastian Furdal 2007-09-10 18:54:50 UTC
hehe,

1. have You ever concidered merge "inst_source" "with sw_single" and "online_update"?

2. yast2 should also remeber last size - its anoying - default size of the yast2 is to samll.

3. In "inst_source" there are "missing" buttons (not list!): "refresh all" "On/Off all" and one column - refresh.

4. Why Yuu add "Repository name" into the "add URL" in "inst_source" - the old way was better ;).

:)
Comment 11 Sebastian Furdal 2007-09-10 18:56:57 UTC
"Repository name" its unnecessary thing - it should be as an option - not as a default

Comment 12 Lukas Ocilka 2007-09-11 06:31:33 UTC
Honestly, I'm not responsible for the majority of YaST modules mentioned in your ideas/questions.

Maybe it could be better to discuss them on these mailing lists:
  * yast-devel@opensuse.org
  * opensuse-softwaremgmt@opensuse.org
  * opensuse-factory@opensuse.org

It's not so easy to make a bigger change without discussing pros and cons.
Comment 13 Sebastian Furdal 2007-09-11 18:17:23 UTC
good idea :)
Comment 14 Ladislav Slezák 2008-04-25 14:08:52 UTC
To the original description: in oppenSUSE11.0 there is a radio button for switching between full URL and parts of URL.

To comment #8: "community repositories" have been integrated into "inst_source"

To comment #10: in openSUSE-11.0 "inst_source" and "sw_single" are integrated ("inst_source" can be started from "sw_single")

Refresh all is also there.

To comment #11: the name is optional, if you don't enter anything yast will propose one automatically.
