Description Magnus Boman 2006-12-10 00:39:02 UTC
It'd be nice if YaST could pre-populate the values for IP and Netmask when switching from DHCP to Static. For IP, it'd be enough to fill in something like '192.168.1.' and then let the user enter the last digits.

I see two possibilities (if you or anybody disagree, just write it here):

1 - use same ip/mask as last ip/mask offered from dhcp
this isn't good idea because of IP colision (this IP is in the DHCP range)

2 - propose "some" values
it might be usefull but what values? 172.xxx or 192.xxx or 10.xxx?
Most used netmask is 255.255.255.0

When implement this, only as button labeled "propose configuration", not to propose as default

I would either go with option 1, or if the DHCP address received is '192.168.1.1' then pre-populate with '192.168.1.' and then let the user fill in the last value. The mask should definitely be taken from DHCP.

Ok, sounds good
But some warning (static IP may produce collision with dhcp range) make sense

ot enought time, move to later

Because the LATER and REMIND resolutions have been removed, the resolution of this bug has changed from LATER to WONTFIX. If this bug needs to be reconsidered, reopen it and set a future "Target Milestone for Fix."
