Description Andreas Grupp 2006-12-30 16:46:21 UTC
While trying to install openSUSE 10.2 over a previous installation with openSUSE 10.1 YaST reported, that it is not able to read or manipulate the partition table of my i2o-harddrive (RAID-System from Fujitsu-Siemens). I had to delete the disk label and all informations about the previous partitions was lost. While I accepted this on my test system this is not acceptable for a production system.

Now, after installing openSUSE 10.2, I realizied that YaST is not able to read the partition table of the system installed by the same YaST!?? YaST gives the output that it is not possible to read the partition with "parted". After accepting this message I am only shown the disk with no partitions at all!

When using "parted" in a shell I get the following informations (with shows that parted seems to read the informations quite well):

(parted) print

Disk /dev/i2o/hda: 146GB
Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/512B
Partition Table: msdos

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
 1 32.3kB 21.5GB 21.5GB primary ext3 boot, , , , , , , , , type=83, ,
 2 21.5GB 43.0GB 21.5GB primary ext3 , , , , , , , , , type=83, ,
 3 43.0GB 46.2GB 3224MB primary linux-swap , , , , , , , , , type=82, ,
 4 46.2GB 146GB 99.4GB extended , , , , , , lba, , , type=0f, ,
 5 46.2GB 99.9GB 53.7GB logical ext3 , , , , , , , , , type=83, ,

Is it possible to fix this? Would be great!

Andreas
