Description Fatih Alabas 2007-01-02 11:17:46 UTC
+++ This bug was initially created as a copy of Bug #230673 +++

I have configured zen-updater in order to check & update ONLY from offical opensuse update repository. And I have also configured some experimental repositories, but NOT subscribed in order to prevent from update, I just do it manually by clicking the corresponding catalog in the configure when I need some specific experimental packages.

However, ONLY when opensuse issues an official update then, I start the update, but zen-updater updates from unsubscribed experimental catalogs if it sees a newer version of the packages than official update.

Logically, zen-updater should not look into unsubscribed catalogues for updates, so it should pick up the official update packages automatically. If zen-updater loves to find the newest version from within even unsubscribed catalogues, it should, at least, show them too in the update list.

I noted that my report about zen-updater's update issue is independent from opensuse's official updates. This can happen whenever an update exists from any repository.

I will give an example about this issue;

I have KDE BACKPORTS and SUSER-GURU in the zen-updater's service list. They have both Amarok packages updated periodically. When I subscribe the KDE BACKPORTS to see what updates are available and then to decide to update Amarok, zen-updater updates from SUSER-GURU if it finds a newer version. ( this happens when I am not subscribed to SUSER-GURU service !!! ???? )

In addition; I can not update a specific package/packages as I wish. When I just want to update Amarok from KDE BACKPORTS, I "disselect" other packages that I do not want to update and start update, however zen-updater still updates all the packages existing in the KDE BACKPORTS repository.

As I said, this is just one example and the issue is not to be understood as repository-dependent.

Considering the originated bug #230673, zmd and zen-updater is an certain pain for desktop users. Some of the issues can be overcome using rug command but the related man pages need to be read carefully.

I am not sure what new or unexperienced users will do....

Zenworks is no more part of opensuse....

There is already a similar bug for SLE10 SP1 with this issue. Marking it as duplicate of bug # 305062. Opensource community may not be able to view that bug as that is a private bug. But still going ahead and marking as duplicate as there is no point keeping a bug open for a product which is not supported.
