Description Perret Florian 2007-01-13 21:43:55 UTC
I have 2 network cards in my computer (wifi and lan), each one need a different config (IP, DNS, router) to work.

In YAST, I can only configure a different IP for each card. If I change the DNS or the router for one, it changes also for the other. So I must configure each time I change...
Comment 1 Michal Zugec 2007-01-30 09:39:51 UTC
This is not possible in YaST now.
But can do it with sysconfig by hand (for each ifcfg-eth... create ifroute-...)
Move it to later as feature-request

Did you try SCPM for this problem?
Comment 3 Perret Florian 2007-11-22 08:57:22 UTC
SCPM could work for this. But it's not the "natural" way to do this (and newbie can't find it).
Move DNS and router settings in a tab in each network card will solve this problem in the easiest way.

Comment 4 Michal Zugec 2007-11-22 09:12:38 UTC
Yes, tabs or "expert button" should work. But in fact you're first and only requesting this feature. That means these options should be somehow hidden for non-experienced users to avoid confuse them (also because in previous versions <= code9 we had dns/routing setting under network devices dialogs)
When I'll see usable screenshot or mockup I'll implement it. If you want participate, you can join user-experience mailing list (http://en.opensuse.org/UX)

It's not just about UI. The DNS/router settings should be different for each device (like for IP).

In my case :
- I use lan card at university with a specific DNS/router settings
- I use wifi card at home with another DNS/router settings.
- At university we also have a wifi with web page login which needs to not have IP/DNS/router configurate to work.
So I have to change settings many times per day. We are 5 at my office in this case (and working with opensuse).

A second step (a better one) could be to disconnect connections and device. For example, on win*** you can create many connections associate to a device and with specific settings. So you just have to choose which connection to use.

No this bug, but all issue. I just mean that I understand what's going on, how to configure, but I don't have time to change current design of YaST lan UI.

mass reopening of later+remind bugs of 11.0
Comment 8 Michal Zugec 2008-06-25 14:10:19 UTC
This should be handled by NetworkManager 0.7 (included in openSUSE 11.0)
Netcontrol is designed for static (not mobile) configuration
