Description Forgotten User t-K-SYtr-p 2007-02-01 11:44:40 UTC
When setting up a Public NTP Server for a PC in Great Britain the server automatically offered is gb.pool.ntp.org. But that gives "Server is unreachable or does not respond properly" error message when the test button is pressed. Pinging gb.pool.ntp.org gives unknown host. Has been checked on two different PCs, clean install, dual boot with Windows XP.

Checking with www.pool.ntp.org the correct server address should be uk.pool.ntp.org

How to get there.

YaST, Network Services, NTP Configuration. In the Automatically Start NTP Deamon select during boot, continue past the warning message. In the NTP Server Configuration, next to the server Address box press select, click on Public NTP Server. Country shows Great Britain, Public NTP Servers box shows gb.pool.ntp.org (Great Britain)

My first bug report, hope this is ok.

I wish there were more bug reports like this :-)

Now the situation with public ntp servers for Great Britain in YaST is somehow confusing. While available ntp server databases use shortcut UK, YaST takes country shortcuts and names from locale and there, GB is always used. As a result, all the ntp servers for Great Britain are listed under 'UK' and only (nonexisting) gb.pool.ntp.org is used for 'real' Great Britain

To avoid confusion, I'll merge these two lists. The only thing I'm not sure about is whether there is equivalence (UK <=> Great Britain).

As far as I'm aware they are the same from a time zone point of view.

Should have done Additional Comment, not reply, sorry.

More than about time zone point of view, I was thinking more about 'political corectness' (in order not to make some northern Irish angry by listing Great Britain only ;-) )
Anyway, fixed in yast2-ntp-client 2.13.17 (2.15.1 for factory)
