It's pretty handy to be able to i.e. do:
zypper install 'beryl*' 

...to install all the beryl* packages, or, say:
zypper install 'kde*Messenger'

I notice that this will be an issue if zypper is meant to handle local/HTTP/FTP RPMs, so perhaps the wildcards can only be activated when you use quotes, as above. I believe APT/Smart handle it this way, too.
