Description Casual J. Programmer 2007-03-05 13:37:53 UTC
This is concerning openSUSE 10.3 alpha2

If in yast2 software management "Installation Sources" is selected as filter, and in any source "all in this list" is selected from the context (right click) menu, then "update if newer version available". Software management quits without coming back if nothing is to be done after activating "accept".

It should be coming back with the message box "Install or remove more packages ?", because there might be more work at hand.

Yast exits without asking if there is nothing to install/remove. It doesn't matter which actions have been performed, but if the result means no change yast is silently finished.

If you don't know if there is something to install/remove use filter "Installation Summary".

Hey, come on, I_am_deciding whether I want to install more packages, not YaST. I am not relying on YaST at all to tell me what to install.

If this was just concerning looking for updates, you were correct. I am talking of setting up or modifying a system, ( This concerns checking for updates as well as installing or removing packages iteratively ) so I would rather be saved the extra work of restarting Software Management after each step.

It makes sense to display that question
"Install or remove more packages?"
even if there were no actions performed...

User clicked on [Accept] button, that's the point. The popup should not be only displayed when clicking on [Cancel] button which definitely means that user wants to abort.

Anyway, the text might be a bit confusing when displayed in case no package was installed/removed/upgraded. CJP: Any better idea for the text?

All in all, we are after the feature and text-freeze, so closing as Enhancement/LATER.
Comment 6 Ladislav Slezák 2008-09-01 13:49:21 UTC
Reopening LATER bugs (LATER will be changed to WONTFIX on September 2).
Comment 7 Ladislav Slezák 2008-10-06 13:41:09 UTC
"Install or remove more packages?" has been removed. Restarting the package manager is fast now (11.0) so there is no need for extra confirmation.
