Description Alexey Eremenko 2007-04-08 01:39:49 UTC
The old NX Client, knx, is unmaintained, and therefore should be removed from the distro.

Reason:
knx targets NX protocol version 1, while the current implementation of both clients & servers use version 2. Those versions are only partially compatible, which causes a lot of problems interconnecting those 2 versions.

Possible ways to go:
1) QtNX - a new OSS NX client emerged, but this one is untested, so we must test it carefully before I can recommend it for inclusion.
2) Proprietary Nomachine's NX Client - this one is stable and feature-full - the recommended one. I have opened a bug report to include that one:

We already have a QtNX package, is it working fine?
Comment 2 Dirk Mueller 2007-05-02 08:39:13 UTC
yes, and even if not, its easier to fix there.
Comment 3 Alexey Eremenko 2007-05-06 10:39:32 UTC
Well, I have tested QtNX - results: very poor.

While the GUI starts it refuses to connect, so basically QtNX is another non-working app.

Until there is an open-source NX client that _works_, we should keep proprietary NX Client on the non-OSS CD.
