Description Yasuhiko Kamata 2007-04-14 08:25:17 UTC
After software packages installation, YaST shows a dialog which contains a hardware configuration screen (ex. graphic cards, sound devices, printers etc.).

When I pushed a "test" link at this screen, it shows only a background screen; xfine dialog (screen position, sizes) cannot be seen. Since I've checked that xfine is surely running at this time by "ps -e", I think xfine failed to show the dialog for some reason.

If this problem occurs, graphic card test cannot be finished successfully.

Workaround: push "CTRL + ALT + BackSpace". It goes back to YaST2.

sorry I can't reproduce this. I called

   init 3
   sax2
   ---> test
---> xfine and the idle timer comes up

?
Comment 5 Yasuhiko Kamata 2007-04-18 13:35:42 UTC
Surely this problem does not occur after installation (i.e. "init 3 -> sax2" works fine); this problem only occurs at YaST installation process.

Could you try to reproduce again?
Comment 6 Yasuhiko Kamata 2007-05-19 14:32:37 UTC
This problem occured on 10.3 Alpha4 (new installation).
Comment 7 Marcus Schaefer 2007-05-21 09:11:21 UTC
I think the problem is that there is a framebuffer X Server running
at the same time when you hit "test". The GUI from YaST is running on
a framebuffer server so this test requires the accelerated driver to
work correctly even if there is a framebuffer server running

Stefan I got several reports which all in all told me the same problem
I would like to remove the test button from the installation procedure
because I can't fix if the X-Server is not aware of it

What do you think ?
Comment 8 Stefan Dirsch 2007-05-21 09:50:07 UTC
Well, a running fbdev Xserver shouldn't hurt at all.
Comment 11 Marcus Schaefer 2007-05-22 09:31:46 UTC
will disable testing for now, set this one to "remind"

Because the LATER and REMIND resolutions have been removed, the resolution of this bug has changed from REMIND to WONTFIX. If this bug needs to be reconsidered, reopen it and set a future "Target Milestone for Fix."
