Description Nikolaus Schweyer 2007-04-18 21:17:02 UTC
trying to install openSUSE 10.2 over an existing (and functioning) 10.1 from a DVD within the magazine CHIP, special edition, 02/2007;
after selection of Installation or Installation-ACPI disabled or Installation-local APIC disabled or Installation-safe settings or Firmware Test the blue openSUSE screen appears, the dots are rotating for some seconds, and then rotation stops and the system hangs;
only power off now is possible, no reaction on mouse or keys nor Ctrl-Alt-Del;
my PC is a HP Pavillon t3237 (AMD Athlon 64, 512 MB RAM, 8GB disk space for Linux on a second drive)

The DVD might be corrupted, have you tried a downloaded CD image?
