Description Dirk Mueller 2007-05-10 10:54:56 UTC
Hi,

for the 1 CD installation targets I've done a size analysis and noticed that samba-client is quite large. particularly it contains quite huge binaries, all of them shouldn't be that large I think.

I suspect that each of them statically links a library with common code that could be linked shared to save space overall.

In addition Dirk mentioned while a discussion samba-client shouldn't prerequire /usr/bin/strings which triggers binutils. This hack was needed to update Samba's winbindd - the init script was moved to a new sub package - from UL 1 / SLES 8. We decided to drop this update path with Samba 3.0.25. The only loss is a not active service winbind after an update from UL 1 / SLES 8 to Samba 3.0.25 on SLES 9 or 10.

Any news?
Comment 4 Lars Müller 2007-06-20 15:07:17 UTC
We'll not split out libraries to lower the foot print of samba-client, as this will not be supported upstream.
