Description Casual J. Programmer 2007-05-21 04:43:44 UTC
On an FSC Amilo Si 1520 with Intel ipw3945 WLAN running openSuSE 10.3 alpha4 running iwconfig or iwlist returns

iwconfig eth1
Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 22
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 21.
Some things may be broken...

iwlist eth1 scan
Warning: Driver for device eth1 has been compiled with version 22
of Wireless Extension, while this program supports up to version 21.

http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/Tools.html states:

The latest stable version of Wireless Tools is version 28, it is stable, most of the stupid bugs have been removed and it supports all Wireless Extensions (from version v11 to v20).

...

There is no point in using an old version, as the latest version can support all versions of Wireless Extensions.

As wireless-tools are at 29pre17-14 according to YaST, they should be able to support ALL wireless extensions according to Jean Tourrilhes.

So something seems not right here

And this is of major severity because of what? Anyway, wireless-tools 29pre17 do not know of wireless extensions v22, hence the warning. wireless-tools have been updated, so this issue is fixed.
