Description Tim Fechtner 2007-05-29 15:07:40 UTC
I'm using the "Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboad 4000". Sax recognizes it as "Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro / Microsoft Interne...".

However, with this setting half of the multimedia keys don't work (homepage, search, my favorits, extra keys 1-5). When I want to add shortkeys in KDE and use these keys, there's no reaction. Is there a possiblity to add support for this keyboard in SAX?

Could you provide me with the following information:

a) what is the output of

   sysp -q keyboard

b) which keyboard type works for you if you manually select one
from the given list in the sax2 keyboard dialog ?

Thanks

Okay. I've tested some of the layout provided by SaX2 and I've tested which of the multimedia keys are working with which of these layouts.

Most of the staff in the attached table is self-explaining. However something not. On top of the number block, there are 3 keys "=", "(" and ")" which worked with none of the layouts I've tried.

There is a key "Meine Favoriten *" (My Favorits *) which never was recognized. Also 5 keys "Meine Favoriten 1" to "Meine Favoriten 5" don't work on none of these layouts.

Also the key "Suchen" ("search", I don't know the XF86 name) worked with none of these layouts.

The rest of the keys is working fine with some layouts, with others not - for details see the ods file.

There is also a key "Zoom" which doesn't work at all.

Furthermore, there is the possibility to use the F1-F12 keys with a special meaning (open, new ...). This can be enabled with a seperate key. The special functions aren't recognized.

For the moment, I didn't want to try all of the layouts. But when you need some other layout to be tested, ask for it - I'll so that.

Thanks for the details, according to the spreadsheet you sent me the
Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro / Microsoft Internet Keyboard is the best
one but still lacks support for some keys. The mentioned keyboard is used
by the XKB Model name "microsoftpro". As you can see from your comment
number #2 sax2 is already using this keyboard model for setting up X.

The problem with the missing keys therefore is not a configuration problem
but an incomplete Xkb keymap
