Description Forgotten User QFh0D9oMPg 2007-06-04 19:23:06 UTC
I recently did a factory update including (among others) kernel-2.6.22-rc2-git7-2-default and hal-0.5.8_git200704021230-28.

Now my Apple iPod connected via firewire is no longer recognized. The iPod will, however, begin charging, but no "do not disconnect" display appears on the iPod screen, and no KDE notification on the computer.

The only entries in /var/log/messages which might have something to do with firewire are the folloowing:
fw_core: created new fw device fw1 (0 config rom retries)
fw_core: phy config: card 0, new root=ffc0, gap_count=5

As I didn't connect the iPod to the computer for several weeks now, I don't know when the problem appeared for the first time.

I am seeing the same problem with my USB iPod.
Comment 2 Thomas Schmidt 2007-06-06 14:00:24 UTC
Don't mind comment #2, it seems my ipod is broken...
Comment 3 Forgotten User QFh0D9oMPg 2007-06-06 16:49:59 UTC
Right now I'm not able to use any removable storage device :(((.

(kernel-default-2.6.22_rc2_git7-2, hal-0.5.8_git200704021230-28, PolicyKit-0.2_git20060822-67, resmgr-1.1.0_SVNr137-13)

USB-Stick -> KDE removable media window pops up, but then Konqueror says that "operation flush is not allowed"

Firewire-iPod -> not even recognized by the desktop

USB-camera with PTP-protocol -> KDE removable media windows pops up, but after some time konqueror says it could not claim the device.

This is VERY annoying...
Comment 4 Marcus Meissner 2007-06-12 18:51:32 UTC
the ptp camera thing is fixed in the next alpha hopefully.

Are you able to mount any of the mentioned devices manually?
After plugging it in please run lshal and attach it's output.

Maybe it's a duplicate of bug 274706.
Could you change this line in /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi from:

<append key="volume.mount.valid_options" type="strlist">flush=</append>
to
<append key="volume.mount.valid_options" type="strlist">flush</append>

, as in comment #12 there?

This bug could indeed be a duplicate of bug 274706.

Concerning mounting CDs: If I insert an optical disc in the drive, nothing happens, as described above.
However, as soon as I enter "hwinfo --cdrom", the drive spins up, the CD is recognized and KDE mounts it??!?

According to comment #7 I'm going to mark this report as a duplicate of Bug 274706.
