Description Christoph Resch 2007-06-10 20:41:35 UTC
Since two years i am wondering why my system keeps that crawly , albeit i am used to slowness - windowsXP alsways been faster ..

i followed dozens of forums around 64-bit linux ..

This forum brings it to the point .. and its actual ..
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-482731-postdays-0-postorder-asc-start-375.html

symptoms are: high load and lags while accessing nearly any kind of storage ( sata , pata , usbfs )

.. i assumed my system been crappy fast ( sysinfo: https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=128495&action=view )

it seems that 2.6.22-git2 really solved this - but i hope i can find a susepatch that doesnt ruin my whole system ( like bringing down fglrx-drivers again )

who can i manage to stay suse-style and enjoy the benefits of 2.6.22 before factory runs release ???

thanks for reply

how can I ... ???
Comment 2 Christoph Resch 2007-07-04 13:55:45 UTC
i wish there would be more frequent kernel updates in opensuse , that are also adepted by the fglrx-package-builders :-(
Comment 3 Christoph Resch 2007-07-10 10:37:03 UTC
this is my vmstat-output during copying music to a USB--MP3-Player WITHOUT using KIO-FILE ( full system paths )

there is no process with maximum-CPU usage .. but the system "hangs" at high load about 17

also fsck.vfat a 400GB Medium gives me the creeps - filling up Memeory and high extremly high load ( reproduceable at any time ) .. also starting vmplayer stucks everything ( at 2GB RAM )

what can i do ??

Whoa. Please do not touch the Priority and Severity tags. They're for our tracking. Also, "Blocker" severity is only for products that haven't yet been released.

This is not a duplicate of 267444. Please take a look at the following bug report.

  http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7372

There are several different problems discussed there. One of them is weird behavior of cfq on amd64. It's still being investigated.
Comment 7 Christoph Resch 2007-08-17 21:33:57 UTC
sorry to break .. i switched to x86 .. gives me too much advantages ... XGL consumes about 450MB less memory since fglrx-8.39.* .. there is no more lagging with the SATA-disk .. and no more high-loads-out-of-nothing .. will come back to x86_64 in one year again :-) .. tnx 4 support
Comment 8 Tejun Heo 2007-08-18 01:40:15 UTC
I'll resolve it as REMIND for now. Thanks.
Comment 9 Stephan Kulow 2008-06-25 09:20:06 UTC
mass reopening all 10.2 LATER+REMIND bugs.
Comment 10 Stephan Kulow 2008-06-25 09:24:23 UTC
close all 10.2 LATER/REMIND bugs as WONTFIX. Reopen yourself if you still plan to work on it.
