Description Wolfgang Rosenauer 2007-06-22 18:08:06 UTC
When I try to remove "desktop effects" from my software selection it first works but when I also remove "games" afterwards then "desktop effects" gets reselected and vice versa.
I couldn't find a real dependency in these selections though.

I have seen this behaviuor as well, happends with other (non mandatory) patterns as well. I try again with alpha6 and report back in separate reports.

I'm just waiting for alpha7 to be public since my a5 installation is already gone.

Sorry, I wasn't able to get the logs yet.
I'll try to get them still but that is really a joke.
The beta2 default selection simply doesn't let me deselect Games and/or Desktop Effects. It's absolutely easy to reproduce: Just start an installation and try to get rid of Games and/or Desktop Effects and it won't work.

I tried to reproduce this with Beta2 and can be reproduced **always** , if you remove the any pattern including games or desktop effects several weirdness happend, f.e if you remove desktop effects and you have previosuly unselected appamor.. it will deselect "desktop effects" but "re add" appamor.. it is unusable.

I just tried a DVD install and could not reproduce it.

Could you do a dummy's description on what to do so that I can reproduce it? Could you add some screenshots, please? Do you use GNOME or KDE as desktop?

Does this happen during installation - or in the installed system?

We had with 10.2 quite a lot of problems in this area but 10.3 *should* fix these.

Thanks!

A solvertestcase described in Comment #1 would be VERY helpful.

I can reproduce it always with KDE 1CD install.

attempt to install beta 2 KDE 1CD and poke around patterns, remove some non-critical (apparmor, desktop effects) and you will inmediately see the wrong behaviuor. it is not random, it is permantent, reproducible all the time.

only during installation , will try in an installed system after getting some sleep.

A good description how that should work would also be helpful.
Maybe I lost my brain meanwhile but it's not intuitive to use. In which state of the package selection should I create the testcase? When I made my selection w/o automatic resolving? Or after automatic resolving? Or when?

xgl and games is in Rec: of KDE so I wonder if it's possible to install KDE w/o games or xgl at all?

You have an error --> Make a testcase at that moment. That's all. Not regarding
the other stuff (automatic resolving....).
You are thinking too much ;-)
Comment 12 Andreas Jaeger 2007-08-24 09:16:03 UTC
It should be possible to do this - Rec means recommend (soft), Req is a hard requires.

Ok, I'll try myself now again

disabled desktop effects and games

I can easily disable both desktop effects and games. After pressing accept I do not see them in the list of patterns to install.

I think I see the problem:
* disable desktop effects (see screenshot2)
* disable graphics - and desktop effects is enabled again (see screenshot 3)

Note: I do not have games on the tested 1 CD KDE but graphics. Hope this helps as well.

Schubi, I have no idea how to generate a test case for you in this case. Please check this yourself!
Comment 17 Wolfgang Rosenauer 2007-08-24 09:47:23 UTC
I can confirm now that it seems to be no problem in the installed system.
I was able to remove desktop_effects and games w/o problems.
Comment 18 Stefan Schubert 2007-09-12 10:20:58 UTC
I can reproduce it. The problem here is that the solver does not regard the keep state while "recycling" old valid solver results.
