Description Mészáros Gyula 2007-06-27 09:27:03 UTC
I set up openSUSE 10.3 Alpha 5 from the CD set. At the internet connection setup I enter a fix IP configuration with a name server and a gateway address. The system passes the internet connection test, however, at later stages it can't resolve machine names (www.suse.com, etc) anymore. After logging in and starting YAST it turns out that the fix IP address and netmask for the NIC are stored but the DNS and gateway settings are empty.
After setting up the DNS and gateway values in YAST they are stored correctly in the system.

This bug is reported for Alpha5, in later Alphas or Betas it should be fixed. Anyway, could you, please, attach YaST logs?
(gzipped /var/log/YaST2/ directory)

Unfortunately I had to reuse that very machine. I try to reproduce the problem on the same machine with 10.3 beta 2 at the weekend and send the logs.

I've just hit the same problem while installing 10.3 beta 2 today, so no, it is not fixed there.
Comment 5 Richard Creighton 2007-09-01 11:31:15 UTC
In the FWIW dept. When doing an UPDATE where the networking is already known and setup, the update installation program *still* asks for this information over again before proceeding instead of retrieving the information from the existing system being updated.

The DNS thing got fixed together with bug #298001. Let me check the gateway stuff
Comment 9 Katarina Machalkova 2007-09-10 09:19:24 UTC
The default gateway seems to be saved at the end of 1st stage (tested with beta3). It is also obvious from the log in comment #6

Thus marking this as a duplicate of the bug #305893 (the issue with not saving DNS configuration)

Please reopen this if the problem persists (with yast2-network 2.15.74 or newer)
