Selecting "Check Now" in the updater applet starts to showing an animation but never finishs, actually I doubt that it ever starts the update checking.

This problem occurs when the backend plugin was not loaded correctly. Then nobody listens to the check-for-updates signal and no check for updates is executed. But the updates waits for answers.

I will add improved error handling when loading of plugins fails.
