log of KDE crash manager
What are you doing with it when it crashes? Sorry, I don't have any recipe to trigger the problem. The first time I saw the crash it was running it was running in the background without any action by me. The second time( when I saved the crashlog ) I was reading Email from an IMAP folder. But I suspect an incoming mail in a POP account. BTW. When starting kmail from the command line it spews out the following message after some time: ASSERT: "!mMailCheckProgressItem" in /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kdepim-3.5.6.enterprise.0.20070731.694771/kmail/popaccount.cpp (403) Created attachment 161605 [details]
KDE crash manager log
I have a possibly similar problem with the above mentioned kmail as well as with it's newer incarnation kdepim3-3.5.7.enterprise.0.20070831.706868-18.1.x86_64. I have installed the corresponding debuginfo and attached a log of KDE crash log manager. The crash is quite reproduceable. When I start kmail all is fine. It downloads new emails from my 3 POP3 accounts, presenting me with POP filters etc. When the next email download starts (configured to check every 2 minutes) it usually crashed. I sometimes see a msgbox complaining something about "APOP not working" (or so, can't read in detail as it immediately vanishes). Changing the potentially offending account to TEXT (APOP is possible according to server features) doesn't help. Sometimes I've also seen a msgbox complaining about something like "can't lock POP box" or so. To sum it up: KMail works reliably for hours when I switch it offline. When I switch it online it crashes within minutes, always upon downloading new emails. Meanwhile I've update to kdepim3-3.5.7.enterprise.0.20070831.706868-18.1 and there was another crash when kmail was just running in the background without any action by me. crashlog attached. crashlog with kdepim3-3.5.7.enterprise.0.20070831.706868-18.1
Is kmail checking a gmail account? Created attachment 161681 [details]
second crash with 18.1
After the first crash with 18.1, I've restarted kmail, browsed some new mails and then switched to konqueror, leaving kmail open. 5 minutes later it crashed again with this crashlog, which looks quite identical to the first one of today.
No,I don't use gmail. Thre is one POP account from INKA , a GMX IMAP account and another IMAP account from KABELBW, my cable internet provider configured in kmail. Some additional points : When running from the command for every ASSERT: "!mMailCheckProgressItem" in /usr/src/packages/BUILD/kdepim-3.5.6.enterprise.0.20070731.694771/kmail/popaccount.cpp (403) a new kio_pop3 process seems to be started But it seems that these kio_pop3 processes never finish. And no new mail pops ups in the POP account. Now I've closed kmail. 29 kio_pop3 processes are still running. When restarting Kmail connection to the POP server fails, because the POP server refuses the connection. Probably caused by the still running kio_pop3 processes. If I close kmail now , kill the kio_pop3 processes and restart kmail, connection to the POP server works now and some new mails are in the POP account. Neither am I using gmail. All my 3 accounts are POP3 (free gmx, payed for tiscali and payed for hosteurope). The crash happens reliably with any of these 3 accounts when periodic checking for emails is enabled. Manually checking for a single account per check works more often than it crashes though it eventually does crash (again for any of these accounts). I don't know whether it is related but apparently I'm connected to a badly routed part of the internet. At least I very often get "blabla not found" when first trying to connect via kmail or load a URL via konqueror. On second (or third) try it usually works. It also happens that I download my mail and when I retry a few minutes later kmail informs me that mailserver can't be found. Repeated retries make it work though. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 307040 *** |
