Description Forgotten User --EoyBps8f 2007-09-22 17:24:59 UTC
Since there is a Qt front-end and a Gtk front-end and the oxygen-icons are named the same as the tango-theme there is no reason why KDE users should not see the oxygen-icons in YaST's Qt front-end.

Judging their looks might be personal taste, but they are absolutely not consistent with any of KDE's current and future icons.

Another annoyance is that this forces the KDE menu to use the same non-KDE icons fro items such as "Install Software".

You can use yast2-theme-openSUSE-Crystal icons, or do you want strictly oxygen-icons? Please see also Bug 309162 and Bug 327437.

I think that the icons used in Qt-frontend should be consistent with the default theme used for KDE and the icons for the Gtk-frontend should be consistent with the default Gnome icon-theme.

Further as bug 327437 states (although the bug report is not actually about that issue), at least with RC1 it is not possible to remove the default yast-theme-icons because it removes other packages too.

I forgot one thing: Since I used the KDE CD to install opensuse there is no magic needed to know which desktop I am going to use and hence which theme to use for Yast.

Oxygen icons -> I'm going to change this bug's severity to enhancement.

Default yast icon set -> Please see comment #1 of Bug 327437

Crystal icon set -> Please see comment #6 and #7 of Bug 327437

-----------------------------------------------------------

Since now, this bug is just about adding Oxygen icons.

I'm going to reassign it to Stefan as the yast2-theme-openSUSE-Crystal (alternative yast icon set) maintainer.
Comment 5 Stefan Hundhammer 2007-09-24 14:03:17 UTC
What do you expect me to do here?

Using these icons was a requirement by project and product management. So now we use them. As long as the crystal icon theme is still available, you can use it instead. But will new icons also be added to that theme as new modules are added? I have serious doubts. So, unless the community picks up this package and keeps providing icons, it will die a slow death.

I really don't see what I can do here.

unless the UX community provides us with free oxygen icons, there won't fall any from the sky. And Novell designers will only paint one icon set: tango and they integrate good enough into the oxygen set. Not as nice into the crystal set, but that is going away anyway.
Comment 7 Forgotten User --EoyBps8f 2007-10-21 13:48:48 UTC
After KDE 4.0 I'll ask the Oxygen artists to help out Novell's limited "artists".
