Description Wolfgang Weidner 2007-10-18 16:30:08 UTC
When running 10.3 on top of xen using the packages provided by the 10.3 DVD distribution, (Linux-) userland applications crash randomly. There doesn't appear to be any pattern for these crashes, they only result in coredumps, and, occasionally, kernel/system hangs.

Of course, due to these failures showing up randomly, the startup sequence of the system gets confused due to pieces missing in a runlevel that others depend on. This is the most prominent occasion where these crashes can be observed without much effort. Also, the installation to Xen VMs fail/crash.

Reproducable under x86-64 HP notebooks, NX6325, which work just fine (well, modulo some glitches in 10.3 elsewhere) when running the kernel-default Linux kernel package without xen underneath.

Thanks,
Wolfgang
