This bug is a result of a faulty package (java-1_5_0-sun-plugin) from 1click restricted formats.

(libc.so.6)
xorg-x11-libX11-32bit-7.2-75.x86_64 wird benötigt von java-1_5_0... (libX11.so.6)

I have the same problem, but much more annoying as kicker crash as soon as I change the desktop...

I'm a KDE user, with 4 desktops. My system is up to date and I forced update of Java-1_5_0-sun package. Java-1_5_0-sun-plugin is not loaded on my system.

At that moment, I have to type "kicker" in a konsole to make it appear again but sometime this does not work and I get mad between kicker and kcontrol until it appears again. But it seems very unstable. Rebooting does not solve the problem.

I could not find any log file giving information about the crashs. I can provide testings if necessary.

I reopen this bug as my system is unusable with more than 1 desktop.

Thanks for your help,

Marc

Marc, do you have further problems like Bug 327583 and Bug 328095,too? Do you have an ati grafic card and are you using the ati proprietary driver?

Well, after a night rest, my suse seems better ! After booting this morning, the problem doesn't appear any more ! (Surprising as I had made several reboot yesterday...)

But I was playing with NFS config and I experienced freezes of KDE. After some search on google, it seems that NFS doesn't like to have server shut down without umounting... The problem of Kicker may be related to NFS.

That problem isn't like bugs 327583 nor 328095. KDE doesn't crash : only the task barre disappear ! But I still have a right clic menu on the desktop...

I don't know if there is a log file where to get some debug info to trace this bug if it appears again ??

I forgot to say that I have an intel basic graphic card.

As I write this, KDE froze once again... So I can't tell you the exact ref ; As I can remember, it is an intel 945 graphic card. It did not made any trouble at install...

Markus, how do you know the java installation affects Kicker?

Marc: you can't shutdown NFS without unmounting and expect apps to survive it.

Thanks for the advice. I've solved the problem with an automount NFS with a short timeout (30s). But I have to admit that file sharing on a network of laptops (that can open or suspend at any time) is not an easy task with NFS. I'm not fan of windoze OS but it doesn't seem to be so touchy with a computer shutdown in the network... I couldn't find another solution on Suse else than automount, which can't be configured within Yast2.

Those remarks are not critics as I'm fully satisfied with my brand new 10.3, that's only remarks from a non-specialist user that tries to solve his problems. But may be it can help to make next Suse 11 still better !

I'm proud to affirm I've never booted again windows since my 10.3 install at the end of september (RC1). I only lauched a virtualbox windows to drive my canon scanner !

I switch back this bug at FIXED as the kicker bug did not appear again since I solved the NFS issue.

Best regards,

Marc

Will, i don't know it but i believe it. I have installed opensuse 10.3 6 times and tested it and came to the conclusion that there is a package in the 1click install restricted formats thats affects the kicker crash, because i can only reproduce the kicker crash during the installation process.
