Description Jean-Philippe BIETH 2007-11-04 07:25:17 UTC
This bug has been seen into 3 personnal different PCs.

What happen :

It's easier to use local DVD iso images within YAST Softwares Repositories than systematically introduce original DVDs in the computer in case of installations etc ... finally that's why the function is provided in Yast Software Repositories ! :o)

Thus as usual I've decided with the commercial version of opensuse 10.3 (bought in Germany) to register the two DVDs in YAST Software Repositories by building 2 iso images of them (dd if=/dev/cdrom of=image.iso ... ).

Unfortunately during the registration of the second DVD (iso (also tested with a simple copy of its content)) there's systematically an error : searching for media support 1 (although previously & correctly registered !).

Thus it becomes impossible to use the 2 DVD iso, just the first image of the first DVD in YAST Software Repositories, so during installations it's necessary to introduce the second physical DVD ... it's not practical ! :o)

This is not a major issue, maybe it's normal due to the difference between the commercial and non-commercial versions of opensuse 10.3 ?

Feel free to contact me for further information. Best regards

Jean-Philippe Bieth

This bug is about media handling. Michael, can you help?

(Sorry for being that late)

A second DVD iso can't, and does not need to be registered. All you have to do:

- Make sure the isos are located in the same directory
- The filenames are the same, except for a tailing digit denoting the media
  number

E.g.:
 /schnell/CD-ARCHIVE/10.3/iso/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD9-BiArch-DVD1.iso
 /schnell/CD-ARCHIVE/10.3/iso/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD9-BiArch-DVD2.iso

If a media >1 is required, Zypp will rewrite the registered location, replacing a trailing digit with the requested media number.

This works with each kind of media. If you'd copy the content of the DVD verbatim into some directory

 /schnell/CD-ARCHIVE/10.3/iso/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD9-BiArch-DVD1/

Zypp will expect a verbatim copy of the 2nf DVD in

 /schnell/CD-ARCHIVE/10.3/iso/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD9-BiArch-DVD2/
