Description Forgotten User eLsunDoIeb 2007-12-13 21:04:33 UTC
Hello, I have a quite annoying bug here.

I have configured the normal SUSE update repositories and Packman. Now, if I want to install any new software package, the installation process freezes and "parse-metadata" occurs in "top" with 100% CPU usage, FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES.

Even installing a simple package needs about an hour. Opening the "installation sources" needs ages, since data from packman is downloaded (why this?): I intended to deactivate packman, but I lost patience.

How can I cleanup this? I found no documentation about this and it is a real pain.

I recommend uninstalling ZMD, this was removed in 10.3.

The parse-metadata process is part of a synchronisation system between yast software management and zenworks management daemon, this is quite slow and problematic.

As you're using 10.2 you don't need ZMD, and if you remove it you will get the more functional openSUSE tools.

See http://opensuse-community.org/Repositories/10.2#Disable_ZMD

or simply select to remove the "Enterprise software management" pattern in yast -> software management -> patterns

The openSUSE software management tools should already be installed.

Do you have enough memory?
Stop and uninstall zmd.
And last: performance is much better in 10.3, what about upgrade?
