When using the Image Creator to create a LiveUSB image, pressing the 

   Change... 

button on the Configuration page hangs, showing the message 

   Reading package database...

Here are two errors I receive using the product-creator



Command: /sbin/yast2 kiwi &
ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 7279, errno = 11

Yast got signal 2 at YCP file product-creator/dialogs.ycp:944

One other point to note...

While the display reads

   Reading package database...

one of my CPUs is running at 100%.

OK - Finally, I got into the package configuration system, but I had to wait between 30 minutes and an hour with the message

The problem has been fixed in STABLE/Factory. I just backported the fix into 10.3 and created the package in the build service.

Add http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/lslezak/openSUSE_10.3/ repository and install yast2-pkg-bindings-2.15.51.1.
