I have the same problem. I installed openSUSE 10.3 64-bit yesterday and I can't do the online update config and add the update repo. It seems to have something to do with some wrong cheksum for fetchmsttfonts. During installation, the Internet connection is tested OK and I wait for the suggestion to do the online update but it never comes, the installation process just continues to the next step. This didn't happen when I installed 10.3 a couple of weeks ago, then I did the online update during installation. Created attachment 190920 [details]

Is 'Bug 353542 - Fail on Adding Main Update Repository...' related? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=353542 I have a park of 12 OpenSuSE 10.3 with this same error. There is some way to skip this package? Lars, there is no relation with the 353542 bug. At work I have a 32-bit machine. I installed 10.3 sometime this winter, a couple of weeks before Christmas. I think I have the same problem there: for the last two or three weeks the update icon has reported that my system is fine and up to date -- no updates available -- but at the same time I read discussions in the mailing lists about "yesterday's update" -- how come I don't see them? I have the update repo added, and system and computer are working fine apart from this. Now it's even worse. My machine at work has had a seemingly working update repo and update function since installation, but the last couple of weeks I've had a feeling it hasn't been working, so today I did the 'Configure On-line Update' again and ended up with no update repo at all. When I do the 'Configure On-line Update'-thing it _looks_ like the configuration works OK and a working update repo is added, I get no error messages, but when I look in 'Repositories' the update repo isn't there, only the installation CD repo and Packman. So, I try to add the update repo by using 'Community Repositories' instead, but there it all ends with the error message about wrong checksum för patch-fetchmsttfonts. No repo added. So, now I have two openSUSE 10.3 systems, one 64-bit at home and one 32-bit at work which I'm totally dependent on in my every-day work, and none of them have a working update repo or update function. I'm unable to keep them up to date. Please, can somebody remove that 'patch-fetchmsttfonts'-thing? I'd rather live without the MS Fonts, or install them manually, than sitting here with a system that I cannot keep up to date. This Thursday I downloaded and burn the DVD-IOS for openSUSE 10.3, 64-bit. This morning I removed all partitions on my HDD and did a fresh installation of 10.3. Everything went fine, I checked the media and it was OK, I clicked OK throughout the whole process, I didn't do any changes or additions apart from changing the language from English to Swedish. The network card config went fine, the connection to the Internet was working, I did the Configure the Online Update thing and it went fine and ended with a "An update server was added to your system" message. Fine, now comes the part where it suggests that I should do an online update, first that one single zypp patch, then restart and then all the other patches (almost 1 Gb). But, no. No, no, no. No online update. The installation just skipped to the next step, which I think is creating a user account. The rest of the installation went fine, though. When finished, I logged into the system, added the system monitor to the panel so I can see what the system is up to, I let a various amount of scripts run for the first time, at least that is what I think is keeping the CPU and HDD so busy the first couple of minutes directly after logging into the system after a fresh install. Then I logged out and turned the computer off. After a while I turned the computer on again, logged into the system, started YaST and checked with 'Repositories' whether I had any update repo? No. Ok, so let's try to do the 'Configure Online Update'. It went fine, I clicked the 'Trust PGP key'-something and some more info was downloaded, but then it just died with the same old error message I've been seeing the last week, something about "wrong checksum for patch-fetchmsttfonts". Why is this? Am I the only one experiencing this? Is there something wrong with my computer? Am I doing something wrong? Why not remove that fetchmsttfonts thing, if that's what causing all this trouble, and put a page on the wiki with a couple of links and an instruction on how to install the fonts manually instead? Why is one single patch, not even mandatory, stopping the whole update feature from working? *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 352719 *** |
