Description Michael Glenn 2008-02-06 20:06:49 UTC
Tested on VMware ESX Server 3.0.2-62488:

Running the Memory Test option on the initial dialog results in a huge amount of memory errors.

Maybe we need a trap for virtual environments?

so - memory test only fails from inside a VM but not on bare metal?

did you try iso-image from http://www.memtest86.com/download.html and does that make a difference ?

you may also try esx builtin ramcheck - see http://www.xtravirt.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=106&Itemid=65

not sure if it`s in 3.0.2 already.

memtest in early opensuse 11 builds seems to have issues, please try alpha3/factory

Comment 3 Michael Glenn 2008-04-01 13:15:54 UTC
Memtest86 v3.4 seems to run just fine. I only ran it for the first five tests, though (the CPU demand was starting to trigger DRS migrations).
Comment 4 Michael Glenn 2008-04-02 00:26:27 UTC
Oops; forgot to hit the NEEDINFO switch!
Comment 5 Michael Glenn 2008-04-02 00:27:35 UTC
FYI: Problem is also in Alpha 3.
Comment 6 Michael Glenn 2008-05-06 13:58:42 UTC
Beta 2: Ran the memory test up to 35%( had to stop there as I was triggering mass VM migrations again); looks good.

Kudoes.
Comment 7 Torsten Duwe 2008-07-01 15:50:57 UTC
Does it still fail with 11.0 final?
Comment 8 Michael Glenn 2008-07-03 15:53:27 UTC
Nope; seems to work just fine, now.

Thanks.
Comment 9 Michael Glenn 2008-07-03 15:53:59 UTC
(Forgot to flip the silly switch.)
Comment 10 Torsten Duwe 2008-07-04 09:21:57 UTC
You're allowed to set this to "fixed" directly, I think :-)
