Description James PEARSON 2008-02-11 12:28:13 UTC
# Problem
The Keyboard Layout settings which in my case is French (azerty) are not taken
into account until very late in the installation process

# Problem Details
In the "Languages" window screen during the installation of openSUSE 11.0 Alpha2 I selected:
Language = English(US)
Keyboard Layout = French

I see the "Downloading language extension" message.

In the "Installation Settings" window the section "Keyboard window" indicates that the keyboard layout is French (e.g. "azerty") but the working keyboard layout is still "querty"

This is very annoying on a laptop.... try making a custom partition setup when the keyboard configuration is set "querty" when you have a "azerty" key board - I can never remember where to look for "/" or "+" under "querty" settings.

In the "Create New User" window, keyboard layout is still mode "querty"

In the "Password for the System Administrator "root"" window the Layout
settings are
correct (in mode azerty).

To resume, my tests show that the keyboard Layout settings changes made in the
"Languages" window screen (which is the very first window one sees during the
installation process) are not taken into until "Password for the System
Administrator "root"" window.

Note : 11.0-Alpha2 was installed using the 11.0-Alpha2 DVD which was made from
the openSUSE-11.0-Alpha1_Alpha2-DVD-i386.delta.iso

Test machine is a T60 Thinkpad with 3 Go RAM

Here is an update
# 1
I just re installed Alpha 2 again and the keyboard settings were OK when I set the root password but when I rebooted into KDE 4 and opened a konsole window and tried to type "su -" I couldn't help noticing that the "querty" keyboard settings were (once again) active (This is a problem because I have a "azerty" keyboard on my T60.)

# 2
When I tried to change the keyboard settings to French via the "SaX2: X11
Configuration" window - section "Keyboard Properties" the changes were not
taken into account. (This to me is a separate distinct bug)

I would greatly appreciated if these problems were corrected for the next release.

Here the YaST logs that you requested

With regards to my Update Point #1 comment
After more testing it would appear that I can set the keyboard settings to FRENCH (azerty) but when I reboot the default "querty" keyboard configuration settings are once again active.

Let me know if you require any more info
