Description Forgotten User QFh0D9oMPg 2008-02-15 05:26:01 UTC
This one is similar to #309847. However, that bug was filed for 10.2. My system worked fine until I reinstalled it with 11.0a2 last week.

My computer has two sound cards. One is the VIA (VT8233...) onboard AC97 codec, the other one is some Leadtek WinFast PCI (snd-cmipci) card. Both cards can be configured flawlessly with alsaconf, and are working.
(In fact, they are even working if not configured: In my current experimantal setup I only have "alsaconf'ed" the additional PCI card in /etc/modprobe.d/sound. Nevertheless the unconfigured onboard sound also plays sounds...)

YaST (currently yast2-sound 2.16.2-17), however, claims not to be able the necessary kernel modules (see #309847 for the error message). But as KDE4's phonon sound subysystem pops up a information window during YaST2's installation process that a new sound card would be availbale, the necessary module is obviously loaded despite YaST's message to the contrary.

For the record, if the soundcards are configured with alsaconf, YaST displays snd-card-0 and snd-card-1 as "unknown" in its list of available soundcards, in addition to the "unconfigured" two available cards. Trying to edit the "alsaconf'ed" cards with YaST produces a crash.

Could you attach YaST logs please?

Problem seems to be fixed as of version
yast2-sound-2.16.2-21.x86_64.rpm

I loaded the yast updates from Factory on 02-22-08 and the sound card could be properly configured by yast (i.e., the problem is fixed for the ENS-1371 driver).

Thank you for testing!
