Description Jean-Daniel Dodin 2008-03-11 08:14:58 UTC
Old fujitsu lifebook, but new IDE 40Gb disk. XP pro stock install (NTFS, empty - second hand computer just bought).

Install 10.3 from box dvd. guess right the partitionning, propose 14Gb for XP, rest for openSUSE, god so go ahead.

Shrink NTFS partition, then stops with an error sorry didn't think to wriye down the number, may be 1001 or similar). Error message said "impossible to write to /dev/sda". Go to ncurse UI (install error).

If you go again to install (grafical ui, then) without rebooting, partitionner shows the 14Gb xp partition as Linux and extended with zero lenght, refuses to delete the extended (refused to do anything with parted, with error message "parted can't read the partition system".

so killed the install (press the switch off). XP restart, check the disk, assign it to windows. In the disk manager I could see three partitions: 14Gb ntfs, 700Mb swap and extended empty.

Then I could reboot to the opensuse dvd, and the install went well, using the non xp space.

so finally all was good and this report is only for the record

Without the YaST-logs there's nothing we can do.

Since second attempt worked it seems unlikely that the situation
can be reproduced to gather the logs.

Next time please provide the logs right away.
