Description Martin Kudlvasr 2008-03-19 21:01:22 UTC
When installing alpha3 (Qt install), I have chosen LDAP authentication with kerberos. When entering root password, there is confirmation popup like:

'''your selected password algorithm does not support more than 8 characters. do you want to truncate password to 8 characters?'''

After finishing installation, setting password longer than 8 chars was no problem.
There should not be such a limitation during install.

Comment 2 Jörg Hermsdorf 2008-03-25 09:55:37 UTC
This happens with local authentication (/etc/passwd) and blowfish encryption, too.

Please provide yast2 logs.

requested y2log

y2log for installation of openSUSE 11 Alpha 3 until popup message:

The password is too long for the current encryption method.
Truncate it to 8 characters?

This logfile is for local authentication using /etc/passwd and blowfish hashing. Not LDAP!
Comment 5 Petr Ostadal 2008-03-26 10:59:59 UTC
It is independent of encryption type, I had same problem with DES.

funtasyspace@yahoo.com : Please explain why this would be CRITICAL.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_severity

"Critical Crash, loss of data, corruption of data, severe memory leak"

There is no data loss. There is no data corruption. There is no memory leak.
Downgrading to a reasonable severity.
