Description Gene Venable 2008-03-20 12:09:41 UTC
Konsole crashes with this error message

 "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not re
ceive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

Xterm works fine. I'm running OpenSuse 11, beta 3.

The installation was a pure default kde installation. I have an AMD-64.

Does this happen with a new user or with a previous .kde4 ?
Comment 2 Martin Schlander 2008-03-20 15:36:03 UTC
This happens for me on alpha 3 - completely fresh installation with fresh user, no reused /home or such. x86 laptop.

cb400f@linux-cb400f:~> /usr/bin/konsole
<unknown program name>(4145)/: Communication problem with "konsole" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "

KCrash: Application 'konsole' crashing...

Same here, fresh installation, new user.
Comment 4 Torben Keßler 2008-03-21 17:54:23 UTC
Same here. I installed it, created a new user and with this user account there always occurs the above mentioned error.
Interesting fact is, that this doesn't happen, if I log in as root and start it there.

backtrace

Tried my best to generate the backtrace, I think I am just missing one debug package.
Comment 6 Felix Möller 2008-03-26 22:42:06 UTC
Running kdeinit4_wrapper konsole and kdeinit4 konsole does work for me. Got the idea from bug #372726.
Comment 7 Torben Keßler 2008-03-27 10:35:45 UTC
I just updated to the most recent factory-version.
Those commands (kdeinit4_wrapper and kdeinit4 as well as kdeinit and kdeinit_wrapper) won't work for me and there is no valid backtrace created.

What works, is using kwrapper konsole and kwrapper4 konsole.
